Now time for our annual Galaxy of Stars. A rummage through the gander bag of all things improvised and a great chance to experience a cross section of the music in bite sized chunks, all in an atmosphere of fun and frolics before the Christmas holidays.
We have started using The Vortex hashtag #bringyourears alongside #mopomoso because basically that’s what it is all about. The South African piano player Chris McGregor was once asked what his favourite instrument was and he said, ‘The drum. The ear drum.’ Listening and playing improvised music is a shared experience. If we believe the mainstream, sharing is something becoming increasingly rare in our seemingly fractured society. Come and share your ears and help keep music live, relevant and real.
And on the subject of mutual support thanks to everyone for your continuing support and in particular those who have used the donate button on this page (You know who you are!) Mopomoso currently get’s no other funding for our running costs let alone for musicians’ fees so all help is gratefully received.
Also a brief word of heartfelt thanks to the volunteers at The Vortex and at Mopomoso who put in so much selfless time and effort to make things work and to get the music out there. A great job !
A sad farewell to Vortex founder and all round good guy David Mossman who died just before Christmas after a long battle with cancer. Someone who quite simply got the music, appreciating the need for innovation and real improvising regardless of genre, he respected both the music and the musicians. He will be sadly missed by many but his legacy lives on in so much good music.
A short film by Oliver Weindling (some filmed at The Vortex) about a man who was a great supporter of Mopomoso over the years. Check out John Jack and a big thanks for his very real support and understanding of the music. xx
